AL Contender Predicted To Steal $187 Million Beloved Star From Astros.

The top priority for the Houston Astros this winter isn’t very hard to figure out. It’s re-signing franchise legend Alex Bregman, who’s spent the last nine years in Houston solidifying himself in Astros history. But now he’s a free agent and, as we all know, money talks. Bregman is reportedly searching for a contract worth over $200 million, but I don’t know if there’s a team in the league willing to give him that. Houston’s first round of offers landed in the $150 million range, so some experts have been left wondering if he’s going to end up in Houston after all. ESPN’s David.

Schoenfield doesn’t think so. Schoenfield predicts Bregman to turn his back on Houston in order to sign a six-year, $187 million deal with the Detroit Tigers. “The Tigers, however, are a perfect fit for need, payroll space and relationships. Tigers third basemen ranked 22nd in the majors in OPS in 2024, hitting .234 with 11 home runs, and the offense ranked 29th overall in OBP,” Schoenfield wrote. “The Tigers have only two players who will make even $10 million in 2025 — Javier Baez and Kenta Maeda — so there is room to make a couple of significant moves.”

If there’s any front office that owes it to the team and the fan base to overpay for talent this winter, it’s the Tigers. Detroit’s front office gave up on the team and the fans in 2024 resulting in a depleted team making a Cinderella run into the postseason. Unfortunately for them, the Tigers didn’t have the personnel to make a legitimate run at the title. Now, the front office could sign Bregman as an apology to the fans. Instead of opting to rebuild, Detroit could decide to buy and acquiring Bregman would be a huge step in the right direction.
