Aaron Rodgers deflects blame with embarrassing quote after NY Jets’ Week 13 loss.

Rodgers refuses to take accountability.

The NY Jets did what they do best in their Week 13 loss to the Seattle Seahawks — they found a way to lose. Aaron Rodgers had an opportunity to lead a game-winning touchdown drive in the game’s closing moments, and for the fifth time this season, he fell short.

Rodgers finished the game completing 21-of-39 passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns but threw a costly pick-six to former Jets defensive lineman Leonard Williams that proved to be the difference in the game.

Despite his struggles again in Week 13, Rodgers refused to take full accountability for the loss after the game. The four-time MVP was asked why his numbers were down even though he insists he’s healthy now, and in typical Rodgers fashion, he deflected blame to others.

Rodgers told reporters that there are “11 guys on the field” and that it’s only “sometimes [his] fault.” That’s not exactly the quote you want to hear from your starting quarterback, especially in a game he deserves to shoulder a lot of the blame.

The Jets had an opportunity to take a 28-7 lead in the second quarter before a disastrous sequence changed the course of the game. Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson found himself wide open in the corner of the end zone, only for Rodgers to airmail the pass for an incompletion.

Rodgers would throw the ball directly into the hands of Leonard Williams, who would take it 92 yards into the end zone on the very next play. That 14-point swing proved to be the difference-maker in a five-point Jets loss.

Of course, Rodgers isn’t the only one who deserves blame. Breece Hall fumbled twice, including a second-half fumble that aided in the Seahawks’ come-from-behind win. Fourth-quarter penalties also proved to be back-breaking for the Jets.

Still, Rodgers deserves his share of blame for this Jets loss. It would be refreshing — and expected — for the Jets’ starting quarterback to point the finger at himself after losing a game. But that isn’t what Rodgers has done all season or, really, throughout his career.

It’s a microcosm of larger issues within the Jets organization, issues that might just stem from the man under center. The good news for Jets fans is that Rodgers is likely on borrowed time in New York.

The bad news is that there are still five more games of this abomination.
