Jets CB Faces Punishment After Profane Trashing of Refs.
Life for the New York Jets has been a nightmare through the last nine seasons. Well, actually, for the last 14 years. Their 26-21 late-game collapse to the Seattle Seahawks was a microcosm of their latest stretch of inadequacies. New York led early 14-0, but a series of mistakes from key players led to the team’s ninth of the season and their ninth-straight losing season. After the game, though, one particular Jets star wasn’t pleased with how Sunday’s loss was officiated overall. “@NFLOfficiating you (expletive) suck, yall should be ashamed of yall selves.!” Jets cornerback D.J. Reed tweeted.
Multiple flags were called on the Jets’ defense during their final drive of the game resulting in a winning touchdown run by Seattle’s offense. While the defense had multiple chances to stop them, key flags were called that extended the drive. While Reed may feel that the Jets were screwed over, it’s hard to argue with many of the penalties that were called. New York has been an inconsistent and undisciplined team over the years so it’s not like they carry favor with any officiating crew at the moment. Monday afternoon, interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich made it clear that Reed’s comments weren’t necessary for the 3-9 team. “I’m going to have a conversation with D.J. regarding it, and that’ll be between the two of us, but I love D.J. to death … He’s a guy that stands for everything that we believe in here the way he plays, style of play is competitive, tough, scrappy,” the coach said. “He’s a player that’s been a big part of why this defense has been as good as it’s been the last couple years.” Whatever the case, Reed could expect a fine coming in the mail relatively soon. The league doesn’t take kindly to players criticizing officials.
