How West Brom boss Carlos Corberan responded when asked about Wolves manager links.
West Brom boss Carlos Corberan has been linked with yet another managerial job – this time at a club who haven’t actually sacked their manager.
Carlos Corberan refused to be drawn on speculation linking him with a move from West Bromwich Albion to arch rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers, after a report emerged in his native Spain on Friday suggesting he had jumped to the top of their wanted list.
Wolves, of course, haven’t yet actually parted company with their existing incumbent. Pressure is indeed mounting on Gary O’Neil after the damaging defeat at Everton on Wednesday evening, but he is set to be handed the opportunity to respond to that by overseeing their trip to West Ham United on Monday (8pm).
The picture could yet change. Indeed, the point already made by some is that a manager tends to be a dead man walking once rumours begin to swirl about their futures and alternative candidates are sought. For now, though, O’Neil remains in situ and Corberan has decided against commenting on the latest links.

“I came here just to be focused on giving you answers to questions on the game we are going to play against Sheffield United,” he said, ahead of the welcoming of the Blades to The Hawthorns for a televised fixture on Sunday. “For me, it’s a very important game and all of my concentration is on this. I just want to give answers related with this topic.
“We are playing one game on Sunday that is very, very important for us. We are preparing well because we know Sheffield United are a team who are competing at a very high level. Right now, they’re the best team in the league, even without the points deduction. All of my concentration and focus is on this.”
This isn’t the first episode of Corberan’s two-year reign in which his name has been named in the same breath as a club elsewhere; since signing a new deal in February 2023 with intense speculation at the time linking him with a return to Leeds United, Corberan has been liked by various Premier League clubs who, in that moment, have been on the hunt for a new manager – among them Leicester City, Everton and West Ham.
“I am a little bit far from any type of rumour or speculation or talks,” Corberan added. “I have learned the best way to make my job is to be focused in my job. The best way to do things is to focus on the things that I can control.”
