Salis Abdul Samed & Ian Poveda Sunderland injury update.
SALIS Abdul Samed is a week away from being ready to start full training with Sunderland, Regis Le Bris has confirmed, with the midfielder expected to be ready to feature at the start of next month.
Samed has not yet been in a matchday squad since arriving in the summer and the Black Cats have had to be patient with the midfielder, who arrived with a muscle problem and then suffered a recurrence of the injury in October.
But the 24-year-old has made good progress in recent weeks and Le Bris expects he’ll soon be ready to play a part.
“Salis is on the way,” said the head coach.
“I think this week was eleven of 11 of his recovery programme, so it should be around one week more before he is ready to join us in full training. So I’m hopeful he will be ready for the team at the beginning of January.”
Sunderland will soon be boosted by the return of Ian Poveda, which is timely given Tommy Watson’s injury setback.
With Watson and Romaine Mundle both sidelined, Sunderland are short of wingers but Poveda, who has endured a frustrating few months since his summer arrival, will be available to play a part in the hectic schedule between now and the new year.
“Ian trained with us this [Thursday] morning, so he should be ready very quickly,” said Le Bris.
