Wolves and Leicester City consider shock bid for £21m Newcastle United star.
Wolverhampton Wanderers are among several Premier League teams interested in signing a Newcastle United midfielder.
Wolves are reportedly weighing up a loan approach for Newcastle outcast Miguel Almiron this January but face competition from a host of English top-tier rivals.
Almiron was a regular starter for the Magpies for five successive seasons but he’s fallen out of favour this campaign, resorted to just nine appearances across all competitions. The 64-time Paraguay international has racked up just 283 minutes this term, with only 119 of those coming in the Premier League.
The Sun reports Wolves, Leicester City and Crystal Palace are all monitoring Almiron’s situation as they believe they can give him another shot in England. It’s also claimed that German Bundesliga side Stuttgart and French Ligue 1 club Marseille are keen on acquiring the 30-year-old’s services.
Almiron, signed from Atalanta United for around £21million in 2018, has scored 30 goals and made 12 assists in 218 appearances for Newcastle. He has been an excellent servant and at times one of the Toon’s most exciting players to watch but he’s fallen way down the pecking order and wants to depart this winter.
Capable of playing on either wing, as an attacking midfielder or even as a shadow striker, Almiron would offer any potential suitor plenty of versatility. The Sun’s report suggests a loan move away would be feasible, with all the interested clubs perhaps exploring that avenue.
If Almiron were to join Wolves, he’d not be guaranteed starts but the minutes would certainly rise. The Paraguayan would compete with the likes of Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, Pablo Sarabia, Hwang Hee-Chan, Goncalo Guedes and Carlos Forbs for a slot in the starting XI.
