Norwich City youngster Tyler Williams signs new deal
Norwich City youngster Tyler Williams has signed his second professional contract at the club, extending his stay at Carrow Road until 2027.
The midfielder, who plays predominantly for City’s U18 side, only put pen to paper on his first pro deal last November, but his development has been rewarded by the Canaries.
Williams, who turned 18 last month, feels he has grown into life as a professional in the last 12 months, especially in his levels of maturity away from the pitch.
“It’s a great feeling to be able to add another accomplishment to my career. I’m quite young, but to be able to achieve that already is a big step that many players find hard to reach, but I’m glad and proud to have done that at this club,” Williams told club channels.
“I started out at Southend and was there from about 12 to 14. Then Norwich approached me and I signed for the club here. I’ve been here for nearly four years now, which is quite a long time to be a club.
“I’d say I am more confident as a person, and it’s more the emotional side off the pitch that has changed for me. I’ve had to grow up and take more responsibility, but I think I’ve grown into being a professional.
“I feel the respect and togetherness of the club all around me, which helps me feel comfortable and safe. That helps me play my best football. I’m happy to be able to extend my stay here.”
Williams has played as a left-back, central defender and defensive midfielder during his time at City and wants to experience the taste of U21s football consistently after making his first appearance for the development squad earlier this month.
“I like to spread the wealth,” he said. “I like to pass the ball to other players and give them opportunities to score. I’d say that I am a deep playmaker, and I like to create from further back, but I like to get my name on the scoresheet or an assist if I can.
