‘Deal agreed’ – Fabrizio Romano confirms Southampton closing in on manager after Carlos Corberan links.

Southampton are nearing the appointment of their new manager after heavy links to West Bromwich Albion’s Carlos Corberan.
Saints are set to hire Ivan Juric as Russell Martin’s successor after a full agreement was reached.

Southampton looked set to be choosing between West Brom’s Carlos Corberan and Sheffield Wednesday’s Danny Rohl but the Premier League relegation fighters have gone in a different direction entirely.

Fabrizio Romano reports Saints have struck an agreement on contract terms with Juric, who will sign his deal today. The appointment should be completed in time for Southampton’s trip to Fulham on Sunday, a fairly tricky match but one the visitors will have the slight hope of gaining a positive result from. Fellow bottom three strugglers Wolverhampton Wanderers won 4-1 there a few weeks ago, after all.

Juric, 49, recently had a very short stint in charge of Italian Serie A giants AS Roma. The former Croatia midfielder joined as Daniele De Rossi’s replacement in September but was relieved of his duties less than two months later following a 3-2 loss to Bologna. That result left Roma just four points above the drop zone.

Before that, Juric had a decent three-year reign at Torino as he led the Turin-based club to a hat-trick of top 10 finishes. The 49-year-old earned that role after two years at Hellas Verona, where he steered his side away from relegation despite having one of the smallest budgets in the division.

Formerly a player for Genoa Juric had three brief spells as head coach between 2016 and 2018. It was quite the manager merry-go-round as the Liguria-based club hired and fired several coaches, rotating between Juric and others. Southampton will be hoping for a much less turbulent time to see out this season.
