Nearly 30 months on from his transfer from Middlesbrough, Tottenham are finally starting to see why exactly the right-back was brought to the club in the first place. Spence has enjoyed an incredible week in a Tottenham shirt and the hope from all will be that it continues.

Outstanding in his game time at Southampton last Sunday and deservedly getting an assist, the 24-year-old retained his place in the side with Destiny Udogie in no position to play after coming off injured in the first half at St Mary’s. Just as he did four days earlier, Spence more than played his part in a Tottenham victory and added yet another assist to his tally.

Starting off in positive fashion and looking to attack at every opportunity as he linked up with Son Heung-min, the ex-Nottingham Forest loanee proved crucial early in the second half as he had a hand in Tottenham’s second and third goals of the contest. For Dejan Kulusevski’s goal that arrived 48 seconds after the restart, Spence had driven infield with the ball and managed to retain possession after seeing a pass cut out.

Duly taking a touch and spreading the ball out wide to Son, the Spurs captain linked up with James Maddison and the move finished with Kulusevski finding the corner of Altay Bayindir’s goal. Spence’s play for the goal may get overlooked but that cannot be said about his assist for Dominic Solanke’s second of the evening.

Picking the ball up on the left flank, the defender saw his teammate point towards a gaping space ahead of him and he did the rest with a wonderful lofted ball that set the summer signing free. Solanke’s finish was that of a true No.9 as he cut inside Lisandro Martinez before arrowing an unstoppable drive into the bottom corner.
