Luton Town – Midfielder Linked With A Return To The Club
After, putting it mildly, an indifferent start to the EFL Championship season, where we languish in 15th place in the table, the support are looking towards the January transfer window for respite.
With the indications being that the club are looking to refresh the squad, it remains to be seen who is currently being eyed up as a possible signing.
Naturally, as the editor of this site, I’m regularly scanning the media to see if any speculation is emerging.
Today (Sunday), one news source – Football Insider 24/7 – are of the opinion that a familiar face could well be set for a return to Kenilworth Road.
Seemingly, the Hatters are looking at a return to the club for Tyreeq Bakinson.
Bakinson, a 26-year-old defensive midfielder, started his career with Luton Town and, upon his release, has subsequently played for a host of clubs including Bristol City, Newport County (loan), Plymouth Argyle (loan) Ipswich Town (loan), Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton Athletic (loan).
Last summer, his latest move, as a free agent, saw him join the League One club, Wycombe Wanderers, where his good form has seen him noticed by the Hatters recruitment team as well as the Belgian side, Standard Liege, who are also reported to be showing an interest.
Circa seven years have passed since Bakinson left Luton Town and it, to me, seems strange that we are looking at bringing in a defensive midfielder when we are crying out for someone who can push forward and create chances for the strikers.
If the Hatters are to re-sign Bakinson, thereby giving him the opportunity to add to the six appearances he made for us before he left, I wonder how much the undisclosed fee will be?
