Frank Lampard gets ‘clearer picture’ of his Coventry City players
Coventry City match analysis from CoventryLive as head coach Frank Lampard takes learnings from dismal defeat
Frank Lampard admits that out of all of his opening five games in charge of Coventry City, Saturday’s 4-1 thrashing by Portsmouth is the one in which he learned most about his players.
The recently appointed Sky Blues head coach insists he has a “clear” picture of the job he has on his hands but is determined to put things right, starting with a bounce-back Boxing Day display against Plymouth Argyle.
Asked if the performance has given him a greater sense of the task he faces at the club, the City boss said: “I was very aware of it and if there’s a positive out of a feeling like this, and a defeat, is that it just gives you a clear picture. I’m here and we are where we are for various reasons, and we have to put them right.
“Whether you talk about confidence or mentality or football today, for me, wasn’t a football answer. They (Portsmouth) were too aggressive for us in the second half and we weren’t aggressive enough for them, and if you get that bit wrong in the Championship then you will lose games like this. So that’s a clear understanding from me today.”
