Fans Give Standing Ovation to Returning Sixers Player After Ejection Reversal
The Philadelphia 76ers and their fans scored a victory after a referee’s technical foul call and center Andre Drummond’s ejection were reversed. With 8:13 left in the second quarter, San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama fell to the floor. The referee called technical fouls on Drummond, which led to his ejection; however, Drummond made no contact with Wembanyama.
After a referee-initiated review, it was determined that Wembanyama flopped, and Drummond was allowed to return to the game. Upon his emergence from the Wells Fargo Center’s tunnel, the 76ers fans stood up and cheered for Drummond’s dramatic return to the court.
Later in the second quarter, center Joel Embiid was ejected from the game after arguing with the referees. Embiid was called with an offensive charging foul and then assessed two technical fouls, leading to his removal from the game. Drummond’s playing time has increased significantly this season. Embiid has only appeared in eight games, including tonight’s against San Antonio. In his 13th season, Drummond has started 14 contests, contributing 7.1 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game. Philadelphia (9-17) is 12th in the Eastern Conference standings, although it has won six of its last nine games after beginning the 2024-25 season with a 3-14 record.
