Frank Lampard has wished Manchester United icon and former England teammate Wayne Rooney well after his Coventry City side thrashed Plymouth Argyle on Boxing Day.

Lampard recently joined Coventry after Mark Robins was controversially sacked by the Sky Blues. The former midfielder has had a mixed start to life in the West Midlands but was left delighted by his team against Rooney’s men.

Argyle found themselves 4-0 down at the break as Tatsuhiro Sakamoto, Ephron Mason-Clark and Josh Eccles’ brace put Coventry in control. Plymouth managed to stem the tide in the second half, but the damage had been well and truly done.

The result left Rooney’s men rooted to the bottom of The Championship as pressure continues to build on the former United striker. When asked about the prospect of his ex-England teammate being sacked, Lampard was keen not to be drawn into that debate.
