Interim team do not plan big tweaks – with possible ace up their sleeve
Chris Brunt says Albion’s caretaker team will not look to tweak too much during the period between head coaches.
Club legend Brunt, alongside Damia Abella and Boaz Myhill, are leading the Baggies for now as they hunt for Carlos Corberan’s successor. Albion were edged out 2-1 at Derby in the first game under the interim team on Boxing Day.
Sheffield United, who were top until a home defeat to Burnley on Thursday and now trail Leeds on goal difference, are Sunday’s hosts and provide a seriously stern test for the managerless visitors.
Brunt admitted after defeat to the Rams that the caretaker team, while adding their own motivation and encouragement, will not look to change too much from a tactical perspective given the rapid turnaround and relative success under Corberan this term.
Spaniard Abella will remain at the club having not joined Corberan and other staff in Valencia. The statistical analyst is settled in the country with a young family, it is understood. Brunt, who played more than 400 times for the Baggies, stressed respected coach Abella brings important continuity.
