Vitor Pereira’s former club are ‘negotiating’ with Wolves star ahead of proposed January move.

One Wolves star could be moved on in the January transfer window after a shock new development.

Wolves’ January is absolutely vital. The club are just one point above the Premier League relegation zone after a poor first half of the season.

While Vitor Pereira has since turned Wolves’ form around, relegation is still a real possibility.

Therefore, a good transfer window could be vital in ensuring the team’s Premier League status.

A new defender is vital with Kevin Danso linked to Wolves. However, departures are also possible.

Sam Johnstone was linked away on New Year’s Day after a less-than-impressive first five months.

Now, a star player could be on the way out according to reports.

Mario Lemina is wanted by Al Shabab.

Mario Lemina has had a tough 2024/25 campaign. The midfielder was made captain by Gary O’Neil in the summer where he since oversaw the club’s decline.

After a brawl vs West Ham, Lemina was stripped of the Wolves captaincy which was subsequently given to Nelson Semedo.

Since Pereira’s appointment, Lemina has not been part of the squad due to an injury. However, this has allowed Andre and Joao Gomes to blossom a strong partnership in the middle.

Speculation has also grown surrounding the midfielder’s future. Lemina’s contract is up in the summer, however, Wolves have a one-year optional extension.

Now, according to journalist Ahmed Aljadi, Pereira’s former club Al Shabab want to sign Lemina.

His post on X, formerly Twitter, states: “Al-Shabab Club aims to contract with a foreign pivot…

“Gabonese international Mario Lemina, a player for English club Wolverhampton Wanderers, is the most prominent name that the club is negotiating with…”

Lemina’s long-term future at Wolves is far from certain. Last year’s Supporter’s Player of the Season has struggled massively for form.

Now, with Joao Gomes and Andre cementing a solid partnership in midfield, it is hard to see him getting back into the team anytime soon.

On top of this, Tommy Doyle’s performances from the bench have been promising, and the Englishman delivered a fantastic ball to Matheus Cunha which led to Wolves’ second vs Man United on Boxing Day.

With Pereira likely to want to bring in his own players, Lemina, who is turns 32 years old this year, may be sacrificed in the transfer window.

Whether it is in January or the summer, unless the Gabon international returns to form, it is hard to see his long-term future being at Wolves.
