Norwich City: Marcelino Nunez' 2022-23 season analysed | The Pink Un

Norwich City have rejected a bid from Premier League Everton for key midfielder Marcelino Nunez, according to reports from his native Chile.

The 24-year-old has been one of the first names on Johannes Hoff Thorup’s team sheet when fit this season, becoming a key cog in the Dane’s possession-based system and hitting his highest goal tally in yellow and green already.

That’s attracted attention from the Toffees according to La Tercera, who claim that Sean Dyche’s side have had a bid worth more than £7million rejected by City sporting director Ben Knapper.

It’s been a busy start to the January window for City, who have already allowed experienced duo Christian Fassnacht and Ashley Barnes to leave on free transfers, returning to Young Boys and Burnley respectively six months before the expiry of their contracts.

There’s confidence behind the scenes that Aston Villa winger Lewis Dobbin will become their first inward deal, with talks over a loan move until the end of the season at an advanced stage after he was recalled from a spell with West Brom.

Slavia Prague wide man Matej Jurasek remains a target this month, however, as Knapper attempts to press on with his strategy of signing young talent for Thorup to develop.

Further exits could take place after the City head coach refused to rule out a departure for club captain Grant Hanley, although he’s keen to hold onto star man Borja Sainz at least until the end of the season.

The 24-year-old has established himself as a key first-team presence for his boyhood club in recent seasons and has featured in all but four of the Black Cats’ Championship outings so far this term. The goalkeeper’s long-term good form has reportedly caught the eye of Premier League clubs Wolves, Tottenham and Manchester United.
