Vitor Pereira sent stark warning as Wolves expert claims £17m player is ‘nowhere near’ the level.
The honeymoon period for Vitor Pereira at Wolves has passed, and now the reality of the task at hand has sunk in.
Pereira knew how difficult it would be to keep Wolves in the Premier League. But with a fresh managerial bounce on his side, collecting wins over Leicester City and Man United along with a draw against Tottenham handed his side a boost.
Now, following successive 3-0 defeats at the hands of Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United, Wolves are creeping dangerously close to the bottom three, with only goal difference separating them from dropping in.
Wolves travel to Chelsea on Monday night, continuing their difficult run of fixtures at Stamford Bridge, and there is little confidence in the visitors securing a result.
Paul Merson predicts Chelsea to beat Wolves easily, with another defeat being just one of many concerns for Pereira.
Wolves loanee Carlos Forbs isn’t good enough
When Wolves sold Pedro Neto to Chelsea for £54m, the hierarchy at Molineux panicked to get a replacement in, leaving it till the last minute.
Gary O’Neil captured Carlos Forbs on loan from Ajax on transfer deadline day, and the 20-year-old was seen as a winger who would excite supporters.
Formerly of Manchester City’s academy, Forbs was expected to showcase his talent but in truth, the Portugal under-21 star has rarely featured this term.
Starting just once in the Premier League – the 5-3 defeat against Brentford – the fleet-footed winger hasn’t done much to convince Pereira of his talent and journalist Liam Keen doesn’t think he’s good enough.
Speaking on the E&S podcast, Keen said: “Forbs can’t get a kick. I know a lot of fans are calling for him to get a game. I’ll be pretty honest, I wouldn’t be calling for him to play, to be honest.
“I think you’re wasting your time. Not because he won’t be able to play, but because I don’t think he’s up to the level.
Nathan Judah then added: “He’s not up to it, nowhere near. Nowhere near.”

Wolves unlikely to sign Forbs permanently
Forbs, who Ajax signed for £17 million from Manchester City in 2023, has endured a disastrous spell at Molineux when many predicted him to flourish in the Premier League.
Even when the likes of Hwang Hee-chan have struggled this term, the youngster hasn’t forced his way into the side, which perhaps proves Keen’s comments correct.
Luckily, Forbs’ future at Wolves is in doubt, as the Portuguese player would need to make a considerable number of appearances to earn a permanent transfer.
A similar agreement was placed in the loan of Jorgen Strand Larsen, who has now earned a permanent transfer to Wolves after making over 20 appearances in all competitions.
