Leeds United hoping for long-term gain after exit transfer discussions this window
Leeds United agreed the sale of Sonny Perkins to Leyton Orient this week, having seen the forward spend the first half of the season on loan with the same club.
Leeds had loose ends to tie up this month with regards to fringe and youth players heading out on loan for better opportunities.
Sonny Perkins was shipped out in the summer window as he headed to former club Leyton Orient on loan for the season, who are now looking for a shock move into the League One playoffs.
Leeds agree permanent Sonny Perkins sale
Perkins looked to be out of the plans quite swiftly after Daniel Farke was appointed as manager back in the summer of 2023, frozen out of the senior squad indefinitely.
His loan stint at Orient appears to be going swimmingly despite just two goals and two assists in the league this season, with the League One club now securing a permanent transfer agreement with Leeds for the forward.
The Athletic reported that the third tier side will pay a small fee to take the 20-year-old from Elland Road on a long-term basis.
Leeds include significant sell-on fee for Perkins exit agreement
As has been the case with other youth player sales in the past – see Max Dean and Elia Caprile as notable examples – Leeds have included a sell-on clause in his contract.
