Middlesbrough host Sunderland in the Championship on Monday night, with the game being shown live on ITV as well as Sky Sports, so here’s everything you need to know
Sunderland are set to face Middlesbrough in a Championship clash on Monday evening, with the match being televised as part of the EFL’s new broadcast agreement with Sky Sports. This arrangement will see five games aired on ITV between now and season end, following last month’s Leeds United v Sheffield Wednesday match.
Both teams come into the North East clash on the back of disappointing results. Sunderland could only draw 2-2 at home to bottom side Plymouth Argyle in their last match in front of the Stadium of Light faithful.
They remain in the promotion hunt, however. Victory over Boro would see Regis Le Bris’ side go level on points with third-placed Burnley, and only two points behind Sheffield United, who occupy the final automatic promotion spot.
Boro, meanwhile, are keen to bounce back from their recent loss to Preston North End and secure a home victory. With other matches taking place over the weekend, a win against their rivals could see Boro leapfrog West Brom and Blackburn Rovers to reclaim fifth position, making up for their 1-0 defeat at the Stadium of Light earlier this season.
