Deadline day proved as frantic as Sunderland fans all expected it to be. In the end, nobody signed, though Jayden Danns is expected to be announced very soon.
Jayden Danns looks set to become a Sunderland player until the end of the season, joining on loan from Liverpool in the main incoming story at the Stadium of Light on deadline day.
The main outgoing story regarded Tommy Watson. Widespread reports revealed that Watson was on his way to Brighton, only for Sunderland to turn down a £13million package for the 18-year-old in the end.
Sunderland fans are pleased to see Watson staying for the time being. Though he remains out of contract in 2026 and so there remains an element of uncertainty around his future.
Elsewhere on deadline day, several names were linked with a move to the Stadium of Light, with varying degrees of whether the link was concrete or not. In the end, Adam Armstrong became quite a hot target for the Black Cats, it seemed.

Earlier on deadline day, it was revealed that Sunderland and Middlesbrough were interested in Armstrong. But Black Cats fans didn’t want to hear about links to the former Newcastle United man.
Pretty soon after the link came to light, reports ruled out Sunderland’s interest in Armstrong. But just after 6pm on deadline day, The Sun reporter Jack Rosser revealed on X that Sunderland had in fact made a loan bid for Southampton striker, which seemed to go under the radar amid a flurry of other stories.
But Rosser added that the 27-year-old was unlikely to move to Wearside, given the fact that he’s a boyhood Newcastle United fan.
