Honest Jon Newsome says the 49ers may have just made a big mistake at Leeds United
Another transfer window has passed and Leeds United failed to make any signings to bolster Daniel Farke’s promotion push despite strong interest in Cameron Archer on deadline day.
While Burnley and Sheffield United have brought in numerous new signings over the course of the last few weeks, Leeds have chosen not to strengthen and it could be a potential brush to tarnish them with.
That is of course, if Leeds fail to get over the line. Last January, Leeds only brought in Connor Roberts while Ipswich Town brought in key additions like Kieffer Moore and it paid dividends during the run in.
This time around, it is different with Leeds top and sitting ahead of third-placed Burnley by five points. But, Leeds fans and clearly Farke felt the club needed new additions ahead of the remaining 16 games.
Jon Newsome thinks Leeds have made mistake in January
Leeds made a loan bid for Cameron Archer but it was rejected and talks got nowhere on deadline day as The Whites attempted to convince Southampton to let him go temporarily, until the end of the season.
Adam Armstrong was linked with Leeds briefly, but Archer’s teammate is now set for a move to West Brom. Speaking to Don’t Go To Bed Just Yet, Jon Newsome thinks Leeds have made a mistake in January.
“I’m a bit surprised in all honesty. I do know they’ve been looking at two, three positions to bring people in. Whether they’ve not found the right people or right deals, don’t know. Surprised no-one has come in.
“They’re a bit short. You don’t want to get to the summer and have regret. Another bad week like the one when Ampadu and Gruev got injured, then they are down to the bare bones. It is a big risk,” he said.
