Sheffield Wednesday made an approach for Manchester City defender Jahmai Simpson-Pusey in January, according to reporter Fabrizio Romano on X.
Sheffield Wednesday were interested in landing the Premier League man on a temporary basis this winter. However, SWFC’s offer to lure him to Hillsborough was rebuffed by Pep Guardiola’s side.

Simpson-Pusey, 19, has made six appearances for Manchester City since so far this season, two of which have come in the league. He has risen up through the academy ranks at the Etihad Stadium.
According to journalist Romano on X, the Owls made a loan offer for the player along with Spanish pair Rayo Valecano and Real Zaragoza. However, his current club turned them all down as they wanted to keep hold of him.
Sheffield Wednesday are sat in 10th place in the Championship table and are only two points off the play-offs after their 1-1 draw with Luton Town last time out.

Sheffield Wednesday wanted Manchester City’s Jahmai Simpson-Pusey
Sheffield Wednesday could have seen Simpson-Pusey as someone to boost their defensive options.
He would have battled it out with the likes of Dominic Iorfa, Michael Ihiekwe and Di’Shon Bernard for a place in the team if he had joined.

However, he provides competition and depth to Manchester City’s defensive department and they weren’t prepared to let him leave.
It is a shame for the youngster though as he would benefit from getting some regular football.
Simpson-Pusey has been a regular for City at various different youth levels in the past. He captained their Under-18’s to the FA Youth Cup and UEFA Youth League.

He penned his first professional deal back in 2023 and is an England youth international.
The Huddersfield-born man made his debut in October last year in a Carabao Cup clash against Tottenham Hotspur.
Guardiola said last year, as per City Xtra: “The guy played really good, the young lad again, with this composure and duels and everything was good. It’s not easy for him.
“Normally the young lads, they must come in with support from the team, with Rodri in front of them, right? With the best Kyle [Walker], and defenders, and now we support him.”

What now for Sheffield Wednesday?
Sheffield Wednesday have to make do with their current centre-back options after missing out on Simpson-Pusey.
The Owls are back in action this weekend with a tricky away trip to The Hawthorns to play West Brom.
