FOOTBALL – Jack Rudoni believes disallowed goal should have stood in Coventry City’s FA Cup defeat…

JACK Rudoni feels his disallowed goal in Coventry City’s home defeat against Ipswich Town in the FA Cup fourth round should have stood.
Rudoni thought he had kept the Sky Blues in the game with a header just past the hour mark at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
However, the flag went up for offside against Brandon Thomas-Asante with the forward deemed to be obstructing the view of Ipswich goalkeeper Alex Palmer.

With Ipswich already two goals ahead, the Tractor Boys sealed the place in the next round with a killer fourth goal moments later.

And Rudoni believes Coventry could have mounted a comeback had his disallowed goal not been ruled out.

Rudoni said: “I could not see anything, I just saw the ball come and I have headed it in, but apparently Brandon (Thomas-Asante) was in the goalkeeper’s sight.

“To be honest. I headed it into the corner, I do not think he gets to it either way because it all happened quite quick.

“I think the goal should have stood. That is how it goes in football sometimes.

“If we get that goal, I think we go on to really apply the pressure and push for an equaliser and take it to extra time, even get another one ourselves. That goal really changes it.

“When you score and it gets ruled out, and then they go up the other end and score to make it 4-1, it kills the game.

“At the same time, the goals were very avoidable, we caused them ourselves, so we only have ourselves to blame for most of them.”

The midfielder set up Joel Latibeaudiere for Coventry’s equaliser after George Hirst’s second-minute penalty opened the scoring.

A brace from Jack Clarke put the Premier League strugglers in command at the break before Rudoni’s disallowed header and Jaden Philogene’s strike saw City exit the FA Cup.

The defeat came after the Sky Blues saw their four-game winning run in the league come to an end against Championship leaders Leeds United.

And Rudoni admits City must put their recent defeats behind them ahead of hosting Queens Park Rangers at the CBS Arena tonight.

Rudoni added: “They have not knocked us back at all, we are all very positive, we know the capabilities of the squad.

“Maybe we think we could have done better in these games, because we believe we have the quality in our squad to beat these teams we are playing.

“At the end of the day, we have to focus on the league and back to it against QPR.

“We need to put these two defeats behind us, they were two good opposition, and go into QPR.

“They have been on a good run recently in the league, it will be a good game, so lets go into it strong at home and get the three points.”

Coventry entertain QPR on Tuesday February 11 with kick-off at 7.45pm at the CBS Arena.
