Everton set for punishment even though Moyes showed up Slot at Goodison
Everton earned themselves a point in the final Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park on Wednesday.
James Tarkowski scored a dramatic last-gasp equaliser as the Toffees drew 2-2 in the Premier League with Liverpool on 12 February.
The centre-back’s goal prompted wild celebrations among the Everton faithful as David Moyes’ side avoided defeat against their fiercest rivals in the two clubs’ final match at Goodison.
Abdoulaye Doucouré’s celebration in front of the Liverpool fans at full-time sparked a post-match brawl between the two sets of players. However, Everton and Liverpool have since put their differences aside and come together to condemn the vile racist abuse the midfielder has since received.
Doucouré and Curtis Jones both saw red for their involvement in the melee, while Arne Slot’s behaviour toward Michael Oliver resulted in the same outcome, with Everton also expected to face punishment despite Moyes handing himself in a much more composed manner than the Liverpool boss.
Everton to face punishment after Merseyside Derby v Liverpool
Moyes wasn’t involved in much of the post-match controversy after the draw with Liverpool, but the same can’t be said for Slot, who has been widely criticised for his interaction with Oliver.
However, despite Moyes staying out of trouble, ex-Goodison scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – believes the Toffees could still be punished after some of their fans entered the pitch.
“If there aren’t any fines, then something is wrong with the game,” King said.
“I don’t think the FA are going to take too kindly to that mini-pitch invasion. I would imagine there will be a fine for Everton. You can’t condone those scenes. All I can say is that the football match was like an old-fashioned derby, with some heavy challenges coming in.
“It was a good game, exciting, right up until the end. Slot’s behaviour at the end of the game was definitely not needed, while Moyes conducted himself in the way you would have expected.”
