Ex-NBA Player Points Out Suns’ Biggest Weakness Amid Poor Season

The Phoenix Suns enter a much-needed All-Star break as they have had a terrible season thus far. Before the season, the Suns were expected to challenge near the top of the Western Conference standings thanks to their superstar trio of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal. Instead, they currently sit 11th in the West standings with a 26-28 and are fighting for their playoff lives.

Of course, there are many reasons why the Suns have had a terrible season thus far. Their big three has not been as good as advertised despite Durant and Booker having great seasons. Beal has struggled, which has seen him be moved out of the starting lineup and to the bench. Outside of their big three, the Suns’ depth has been a major issue, especially in the frontcourt.

Phoenix made some moves ahead of the deadline to somewhat fix their frontcourt rotation by trading away Jusuf Nurkic and landing Nick Richard from the Charlotte Hornets, but it has not helped them thus far. While both of these issues have been major ones, former NBA player Lou Williams recently pointed out the Suns’ biggest issue on a recent episode of FanDuel’s Run It Back show. “They don’t guard,” Williams said about the Suns. “Simple. It’s not even science bro. They don’t guard. They got all the scoring in the world. Until they start guarding, this is the position they’re gonna be in.”
