On Friday afternoon, Matt Zenitz, national college football reporter for CBS Sports and 247 Sports, reported the Chicago Bears were hiring Oregon State offensive line coach Kyle DeVan.
It’s assumed that DeVan will be Chicago’s assistant offensive line coach under new offensive line coach Dan Roushar. This is exactly how DeVan started his coaching career in 2015 when he and Roushar were with the New Orleans Saints.
After one season in New Orleans, DeVan spent the next nine years in the college ranks.
Before getting into coaching, he played center and guard in the NFL from 2008 to 2012, appearing in 40 games with 26 starts for the Indianapolis Colts, Philadelphia Eagles, and Tennessee Titans.
Zenitz was back at it on Friday night, reporting the Bears were hiring University of San Diego offensive coordinator/QB coach Matt Aponte. In 2023, Aponte was the youngest offensive coordinator at the Division I FCS level, and he was named to the Coaching Network’s 30 Under 30 list that year.
It’s assumed he’ll join Ben Johnson’s staff as an assistant QB coach.
From 2021 to 2022, Aponte was the tight end coach at San Diego. Before that, he spent six years as an assistant coach at the University of Iowa and two summers as an intern with the Kansas City Chiefs.
