West Brom manager shares ‘immense’ Will Lankshear verdict after watching Tottenham striker in training
Since leaving Tottenham Hotspur on loan in January, Will Lanskhear has now made three appearances for West Bromwich Albion in the Championship.
Lankshear has already totted up 114 senior minutes for West Brom, a 19-year-old who will be hoping to return to Tottenham ready to compete for a squad place next season.
The young striker has a remarkable under-21 record for Spurs, scoring 26 goals in 34 games, and he’s now trying to prove his effectiveness at senior level.
Of course, Lankshear grabbed his first goal for Tottenham this season in a 3-2 defeat away at Galatasaray, a game in which he was also sent off.
And although Lankshear is making a step down to join West Brom in the Championship, it’ll certainly be no easy task.
Tony Mowbray says Will Lankshear already looks ‘extremely strong’
West Brom manager Tony Mowbray also recruited Adam Armstrong on loan from Southampton in January, who almost guarantees goals at this level.
That being said, Mowbray had a ton of praise for Lankshear when speaking before West Brom faced Millwall on Saturday.
Speaking at his press conference, Mowbray said: “I think Lankshear did well when he came on the other day, but he’s been very impressive in training.
“He’s extremely strong for a 19-year-old boy, he has immense power in both feet, he has intelligence and I’ll be giving him game-time.
“The option will be sometimes to play Armstrong and Lankshear I suppose. Armstrong can play anywhere along the front. It’ll depend what we need.
“You need to put players with goals against their name on the pitch. I am encouraged by young Will.
“He looks really exciting in training and, yes, we got Armstrong at the last minute who, in my mind, is guaranteed goals if you give him enough game time, but Will will be given an opportunity to play and hopefully he forces his way in.”
