Newcastle United were absolutely dreadful on Saturday.
For all of the talk of finally ending their hoodoo away at Manchester City, Newcastle United absolutely crumbled at the home of the Premier League champions. Again.
Indeed, even a Pep Guardiola side who have suffered a crisis of form are still seemingly far too good for Eddie Howe’s team. City thrashed Newcastle 4-0 on Saturday, sending the Magpies down to seventh in the Premier League table.

It was yet another miserable day for Newcastle and another game in which their big players did not step up. Kieran Trippier was criticised by Newcastle fans but, frankly, none of his teammates covered themselves in glory either.
Lewis Miley was the only positive for Newcastle against City, the midfielder having their only shot on target after coming on at half-time.
Certainly a bleak day for the forward line and the Newcastle United manager looked particularly frustrated watching Anthony Gordon, it seems.

The England forward broke away and could well have slipped Alexander Isak in but got his execution all wrong, allowing John Stones to cut it out.
According to Craig Hope, Howe had his head in his hands watching that…
“At one-nil, Gordon goes away down the left and there’s a chance to play a ball down the left for Isak that Gordon normally probably should be able to execute,” Hope told a YouTube video.
“It’s a really poor delivery in the end cut out by John Stones and Eddie Howe down in front of us, he’s got his head in his hands. He knew that was a real chance.”
Anthony Gordon is an injury worry for Newcastle
Gordon has been one of the most creative players in Europe this season, so perhaps can be afforded an off-day given the context of the game.
While it’s natural to expect better from a player of his quality, Gordon was a slight injury doubt heading into the game.
Though it’s of course difficult to definitely say he certainly did not look at full fitness on Saturday.
