Jets ‘Intrigued’ By Rising Star QB as Replacement for Aaron Rodgers.
The New York Jets have pulled the plug on the Aaron Rodgers experiment, publicly announcing that they are parting ways with the veteran quarterback after two shaky seasons. The Jets have no clear path forward at quarterback, but one insider believes the team could turn to an “intriguing” option in the upcoming NFL draft. ESPN’s Rich Cimini noted that new Jets head coach Aaron Glenn wants to put his stamp on the team with his own quarterback. Cimini noted that it “won’t be easy to replace [Rodgers’] numbers,” pointing out that the former league MVP threw for 3,897
yards and 28 touchdowns in 2024. The team could give a nod to 35-year-old backup Tyrod Taylor, though Cimini pointed out that Taylor hasn’t started more than six games since the 2017 season. He added that veterans Kirk Cousins and Justin Fields could be options, but the Jets may have their eyes on a much younger option. “They also could draft a quarterback,” Cimini wrote. “Keep an eye on Jaxson Dart of Ole Miss. passes. The Jets may need to be aggressive if they want to land Dart, who is seen as a rising star and has been climbing up mock draft boards. ESPN’s Field Yates projected Dart as the No. 21 pick in his mock draft, noting that he could continue to rise. “This projection represents a big rise up the board from where Dart currently ranks outside my top 32, but quarterbacks always have a chance to climb given positional value,” Yates wrote. “Keep an eye on Dart here as we get closer to April.”
