Steven Pienaar blown away by new Everton hero as affection for man desperate to stay clear
An overview of some of the moments from behind the scenes and amid the aftermath of another big performance under David Moyes
Everton took another big step towards Premier League safety with a big win at Crystal Palace. Goals from Beto and Carlos Alcaraz sealed a 2-1 victory that launched the Blues into mid-table and pulled them away from any real concern over relegation.
David Moyes was reluctant to go that far when asked by the ECHO whether he considered his side to now be safe.
But as he continues to fuel Everton’s resurgence – that is now four Premier League wins in five – here are a few moments from around the game and its aftermath that did not make the headlines…
Former Moyes favourite gives match winner the seal of approval
Everton’s match-winner earned the seal of approval from an old Moyes favourite after his role in another big Everton result.
Steven Pienaar was a common topic of conversation even before Moyes’ return as supporters clamoured to liken Iliman Ndiaye – the bright spark in a dismal start to the campaign – to the Blues hero.
But it was Alcaraz who led to the former South Africa international taking to social media in the aftermath of the win over Crystal Palace. Pienaar purred over the 22-year-old’s impact in the game, which saw him clinched an assist and a goal on his first start.
Pienaar took a moment to reflect on both Alcaraz and Moyes as he wrote on X, formerly Twitter: “Gaffer done it again with signing quality player in Charly Alcaraz.”
