‘Beggars belief’ – Stoke City injury boost in wake of left-back triple whammy
Latest news from the treatment room at Clayton Wood after Stoke City’s three left-backs all picked up calf injuries
Enda Stevens is hoping to join back in training after Stoke City suffered a triple whammy of calf injuries to left-backs.
Stevens has missed the last couple of matches while Eric Bocat has been out since suffering an injury in the warm-up on New Year’s Day and January signing Josh Wilson-Esbrand will be assessed after limping through the closing stages against Swansea.
Jordan Thompson had returned from a hernia operation to start his first game since October on Saturday, filling in on the left of defence and keeping a handle on Swansea right wing-back Ronald.
But fingers are crossed for positive test results on Wilson-Esbrand, Bocat is closing on a return and Stevens is expected to be fit for next weekend’s trip to Norwich.
Mark Robins said: “I’m hoping Josh hasn’t done his calf because he felt a sharp pain when he landed in his calf, first thing he did. It beggars belief.
“But Enda should be fine and I thought Jordan Thompson did really well. He did great for us against a wing-back who’s a winger wing-back really and it was one-v-one really so you haven’t got the overlaps or the other things to take into consideration. It was a good game for him to come back in.
