Why Cody Gakpo is missing from Liverpool squad vs Wolves as Arne Slot handed new blow

Cody Gakpo is a notable absentee for Liverpool as the Reds look to bounce back from the disappointment of dropping points at Everton against Wolves.
Arne Slot has made just two changes to his side following that dramatic end to the Merseyside derby, with Trent Alexander-Arnold fit enough to return to the starting line-up in place of Conor Bradley, who drops to the bench. The other change though has been forced upon the Liverpool boss.
Diogo Jota replaces Gakpo, with Slot confirming the Netherlands international had picked up a knock against Everton which led to his substitution during the second half. The Liverpool boss had described Gakpo as a “doubt” during his pre-match press conference on Friday, leaving the door open for him to potentially feature against Wolves.
The 25-year-old though wasn’t involved in training just hours after Slot spoke to the press, placing further doubt on his involvement, and Gakpo hasn’t been named in the matchday squad, which provides a bigger worry ahead of a crucial run-in.
Liverpool faces three more games over the following 10 days after Wolves, with trips to Aston Villa and Manchester City over the next week before Newcastle visits Anfield on February 26.
