Manager linked with Wrexham job now 13 games away from securing promotion to the Premier League..
Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds had their pick of options when considering who should be the next Wrexham manager.
The Red Dragons were taken over in February 2021 when Dean Keates was still heading things up at the Racecourse Ground.
Rather than making instant changes, Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds opted to give the coaching staff and players already at the club a chance to prove themselves in the remainder of the 2020/21 season.
Things did not quite go to plan, however, as Wrexham ended that campaign eighth in the National League, just one point outside of the play-off places after drawing their last league fixture.
Keates was swiftly relieved of his duties and the search for a new manager began. After considering many options, Phil Parkinson was persuaded to drop down to the fifth tier of English football and has enjoyed great success since.

Manager linked to Wrexham close to promotion with Sheffield United
Parkinson has managed one second-place finish in the National League, two promotions in a row and is fighting for a third in 2024/25.
But while the ex-Bolton Wanderers boss has been a great appointment, another named who was linked with the role is now on the verge of earning a place in the Premier League for the forthcoming season.
The man in question was Mark Hudson who was on the coaching staff of Huddersfield Town when rumours of interest emerged.
