Brighton send scouts to watch player in Champions League – May need to pay big price
Brighton and Hove Albion sent a scout to watch Joel Ordóñez ‘up close’ in Club Brugge’s clash with Atalanta this week.
That’s according to ESPN journalist Jorge Baravalle, via Bolavip, who reports that Brighton are keeping a close eye on the defender.
According to his information, Brighton ‘sent their scouts’ to watch the defender in action in the Champions League as they continue to monitor his performances ahead of the summer.
They were handed a treat too as Brugge ran out 3-1 winners in the game to secure surprise progression against the Europa League holders.
Ordóñez started and completed the 90 minutes in the game but could do nothing to stop Ademola Lookman scoring a consolation goal for the home side.
Whether his performance was enough to convince Brighton remains to be seen but they are ‘closely following’ the Ecuadorian, nonetheless.
They could face competition from the Premier League as Bolavip state that Chelsea, Newcastle and Aston Villa have all shown an interest too. They also add that any sale would likely be the most expensive in the history of Belgian football, with Ordóñez currently valued at €18m.
The current Jupiler Pro League record departure is Charles de Ketelaere’s €37.5m move to AC Milan in 2022, so Brighton may need to open the chequebook again.
