While their lack of success this season could lead to more opportunities than initially expected, it’s still promising to see that player development has been more of an emphasis of late.

We’ve seen them already reward local product TyTy Washington with heavy minutes (somewhat) unexpectedly in a “big” game.

TyTy appeared in 3 games pre-ASB for Phoenix, averaging 20.0 minutes per game. In that time, he put up 6.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.7 assists on just 30.8% shooting from the field. While the results aren’t jumping off the page and he had some rough shooting nights, that’s not really the point. It’s about working through those growing pains and finding confidence.

Collin Gillespie could be next if Tyus Jones continues to underwhelm or more injuries stack up. He has been absolutely tearing it up for the Valley Suns and has shown that he can hang in an NBA setting as well.

He put up 9 points and 3 assists in 15 minutes in the loss to Houston last Wednesday. Could that be an appetizer for more to come or is it just a random blip on the radar?

Gillespie has pieced together monstrous outings in the G League.
