Regis Le Bris’ view of what Sunderland can expect from Hull City
REGIS LE BRIS thinks Hull City are a different threat under their current boss, Ruben Selles, than they were under Tim Walter earlier in the season.
Walter was in charge of the Tigers in mid-October when Wilson Isidor’s goal secured Sunderland a 1-0 win at the MKM Stadium.
That was one of Walters’ final games in charge, with Hull opting for a change of boss in late November, which resulted in the appointment of Selles.
The former Southampton and Reading has been tasked with keeping Hull in the Championship, and with his side sitting in 21st position ahead of this lunchtime’s trip to the Stadium of Light, he has tended to adopt a more cautious and safety-first approach than his predecessor.
“First game, when we analysed Hull, it was an unusual way of playing,” said Le Bris. “I think now they are more pragmatic. Still with players who can build under pressure, but probably less risky.
“They’ve showed their good qualities away many times, and we will see what their structure, ambition and impetus will be. We still have to be aware of different ideas.”
There is expected to be a crowd of around 44,000 in the Stadium of Light this afternoon, and having experienced the power of the Elland Road support as Leeds came from behind to beat Sunderland on Monday night, Le Bris is hoping his players will benefit from the backing of a raucous Wearside crowd today.
“Their (Leeds) fans were impressive, although ours were good as well,” said the Black Cats boss. “The crowd are very important because it is like a shared ambition, and at the Stadium of Light, we have been good so far.
“They helped the team often, even when it was difficult. In the last rounds that we have coming up now, they will be very important for us, for sure.”
