Return to the Championship on the cards for former West Brom manager
West Brom parted with Valerien Ismael in February 2022, just seven months into a four-year contract, after a poor run of results
Former West Brom boss Valerien Ismael has been identified as a potential successor to John Eustace at managerless Blackburn Rovers. Eustace departed play-off chasing Rovers for relegation threatened Derby County earlier this month and the Ewood Park club are on the look-out for a new coach to pick up where Eustace left off.
Eustace joined last season and enjoyed a brilliant first half of this season, guiding the club into the top six and helping them to maintain that position in the table. Recently, they’ve beaten Albion at The Hawthorns 2-0, even since Eustace’s departure. They’d opened up a four-point gap while sat in fifth place, but were pegged back 3-0 at Swansea over the weekend.
It ought to be an attractive job, and amid their pursuit of a new boss, Ismael’s name has been mentioned – indeed he is the odds on favourite with the bookmakers. The Frenchman took over from Sam Allardyce following the Baggies’ drop into the Championship in 2021, having guided Barnsley into the play-offs, against the odds, the season before with Daryl Dike, Callum Styles and Alex Mowatt in tow.
