Triallist scores as Coventry City in quarter-finals after dramatic lifeline and keeper heroics
Coventry City news from CoventryLive as the Sky Blues Under-21s book their place in the quarter-final of the Birmingham Senior Cup after a dramatic last minute equaliser and penalty shootout success
Coventry City booked their place in the quarter final of the Birmingham Senior Cup in dramatic fashion with a last minute equaliser setting up a penalty shootout success against Dudley Town.
The Sky Blues Under-21s took the lead at the Guardian Warehousing Arena through a triallist forward, who impressed early on with a tenth minute goal against the non-league opposition.
Dudley, however, pulled level in the 20th minute and got themselves in front just after the half hour mark, taking their narrow advantage into the break. The scoreline remained the same for majority of the second half but just when it looked like the visitors were going out of the competition, up popped defender Callum Perry with a 30-yard screamer in the fifth and last minute of stoppage time to give City a lifeline by sending the tie to penalties.
Goalkeeper Cian Tyler – who has endured a troubled and extended time out with a wrist injury – then proved to be the hero of the night by saving his first two kicks, while Perry scored City’s first spot-kick. Kai Yearn saw his effort saved, making it 1-0 to City after two penalties apiece
