Praise for Lucien Mahovo and delight at Johannes Hoff Thorup’s willingness to trust young players
When I think back to last summer, one of the most exciting things about the appointment of Johannes Hoff Thorup was his willingness to put trust in young players and enable them to develop.
Under recent head coaches, it had felt like opportunities for youngsters were few and far between, and often only arose when dictated by factors such as injuries.
But this year has certainly had a different feel to it. Kellen Fisher didn’t take long to usurp Jack Stacey as first choice right-back – while in recent weeks Lucien Mahovo has burst onto the scene on the opposite defensive side.
There are others; Gabriel Forsyth would have certainly played more minutes had it not been for injury, while Oscar Schwartau has featured more than some might have expected.
