Chicago Bears trade draft pick for Jonah Jackson, decide not to tender Jack Sanborn
The Chicago Bears are hoping they can recapture some of the magic from Jonah Johnson, an offensive lineman he coached during his time in Detroit.
The Bears traded this year’s sixth-round pick to the Los Angeles Rams for Jackson, an offensive guard.
Taking Jackson’s $17.5 million salary is a bit of a risk, with Jackson having been limited to just four games last season due to a shoulder injury. The Rams reportedly gave Jackson permission to seek a trade.
Primarily at left guard, Jackson started 57 games with the Detroit Lions, earning Pro Bowl honors in 2021.
The deal will not be official until the start of the new league year next Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Jack Sanborn’s storybook run with his hometown Bears is over. The Bears did not tender the Lake Zurich native and restricted free agent. Sanborn confirmed his departure and thanked fans on social media.
The linebacker started 19 games over three seasons with the Bears after going undrafted out of Wisconsin in 2022.
