Ex-NBA Players Urges Surprise West Team to Strike Kevin Durant Trade
It has been a terrible season thus far for the Phoenix Suns and major changes to their roster are expected to happen in the offseason. The Suns currently sit 11th in the Western Conference standings, two and a half games back of the Dallas Mavericks for the final Play-In spot, after being expected to compete near the top of the West standings this season. Phoenix’s superstar trio of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal has not worked out as originally planned, and the Suns are likely to break them up in the offseason.
With Durant possibly on his way out of Phoenix, there are many teams expected to pursue the future Hall of Fame forward, but former NBA player The Pinson recently named a surprise Western Conference team that should pursue a trade for Durant in the offseason. “It makes sense. You give up what the (expletive) you got to give up to get Kevin Durant in a Dallas Mavs’ jersey next year,” Pinson said. “He like Dallas,” Raymond Felton added.
Of course, the Mavericks reportedly tried to land Durant from the Suns at this season’s trade deadline but failed to do so. Despite this, Pinson believes that they should do everything it takes to pair Durant alongside Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis in the offseason to chase a championship. While that may sound like a great plan on paper, it would be a very difficult trade for the Mavericks to pull off due to salary reasons.
Dallas already has most of their money locked up between Davis and Irving, so for them to acquire Durant, they would have to give up a ton of their key role players surrounding them. Of course, Durant’s addition to the Mavericks could make them a championship contender next season, but it could also backfire if they have to give up a ton of their key players.
