Ruud van Nistelrooy addresses Jannik Vestergaard bringing his dog to Leicester City training
The centre-back had permission to take his pet to the club’s Seagrave training ground with his family unable to care for it, and van Nistelrooy said it was a non-issue
Ruud van Nistelrooy takes “personal pride” in the standards he sets at Leicester City and insists Jannik Vestergaard bringing his dog to training did not undermine those standards.
It emerged last weekend that centre-back Vestergaard had, with permission, brought his dog to the club’s Seagrave training base as a one-off with his family unable to care for it.
For some supporters, it represented a lack of professionalism at City as they fight for Premier League survival.
But van Nistelrooy dismissed it as a non-issue and said it did not infringe on the standards he is very keen to set at the club.
The Dutchman, having played at Manchester United during their period as serial winners under Sir Alex Ferguson, wants City to strive to that same level of professionalism.
“I see it as one incident and a non-issue,” he said. “In general, I’ve tried to increase the standards over the past three months. This had nothing to do with the general standards that I’m responsible for at this club.
