Ominous’ – Gary Lineker issues relegation verdict after seeing Wolves draw with Everton
Wolves took a point against Everton on Saturday night with a 1-1 draw – and after the game, Gary Lineker gave his reaction to the ongoing relegation battle on Match of the Day.
Wolves held one of the division’s most in-form sides, coming from behind at Molineux.
Jack Harrison gave the visitors the lead, scoring via a deflected strike that gave Jose Sa no chance.
It was sloppy from Wolves at the back to invite the pressure, and Pereira will have been frustrated seeing that ball squeeze through into the far corner.
But Wolves responded well, despite the absence of Matheus Cunha, with Jean-Ricner Bellegarde stepping up to supply Marshall Munetsi with a brilliant pass for his first Wolves goal. Munetsi’s night against Everton would then end early due to injury.
Joe Cole said after the game he felt Wolves would now stay up – and Gary Lineker offered a similar verdict on Match of the Day.
With Wolves not having Cunha, and Everton being in really good form under David Moyes, a lot of Wanderers fans will have taken a draw ahead of the game.
And most were indeed pleased with a point in the end.
Wolves just didn’t really have that cutting edge to breach Everton in the second-half.
If Wolves can follow this result up with a win over Southampton, then it will certainly be a very good point.
After last night’s draw, Gary Lineker and his punditry team assessed the game on Match of the Day.
