Thomas Tuchel was in the stands for Crystal Palace’s late victory over Ipswich – and he cranked up the pressure on his England stars with a pre-match text.
Goalkeeper Dean Henderson has revealed he, Marc Guehi, Adam Wharton and Eberechi Eze all received the same message before grinding out a third successive home win in all competitions against the Tractor Boys.
The 27-year-old, who made six saves to bank his ninth Premier League clean sheet of the season, believes there was no better way to sign off ahead of this week’s warm-weather training camp in Marbella and Friday’s Three Lions squad announcement.
He said of Tuchel: “I’ve spoken to him, he text me before the game. He just said he’d be at the match and that he’d be in the stands watching, he wished me all the best and I think he did alongside Adam, Marc and Ebs as well.
“All I can control is doing my job for the team and show up in big moments, which I have been doing.
“I’m playing my best football of the past few years because I hadn’t been playing much before that. I’m in autopilot now and I just want to keep going from strength to strength.”
Only Liverpool (25) have claimed more top-flight points than high-flying Palace (17) since the turn of the year and Oliver Glasner’s Eagles now enjoy an extended three-week break until their next competitive fixture; the FA Cup quarter-final at Fulham on March 29.
While life at Selhurst Park has been bliss for Henderson this season – securing another cap for England is now in his crosshairs.
