Dolphins Bolster Tua Tagovailoa’s Protection With Signing of Former Bears Lineman
It took a few hours, but the Miami Dolphins are slowly jumping into the free-agent frenzy. After letting the initial wave of highly paid players sign elsewhere, the Dolphins have added three unrestricted free agents to their roster. The first move of the day came at backup quarterback. Miami signed Broncos free agent quarterback Zach Wilson to a 1-year, $6 million contract that can reportedly reach up to $10 million. Later came the biggest news of the young offseason. Miami agreed to terms with Pittsburgh offensive lineman James Daniels on a 3-year, $24 million contract. Assuming a return to health, Daniels is locked in as one of Miami’s starting guards.
Now, there’s more. As first reported by Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Bears free agent offensive lineman Larry Borom is the latest player to agree to terms with Miami. Borom started 27 games in his four seasons with the Chicago Bears and will add depth to one of the league’s worst offensive lines. Borom had more ups than downs during his tenure as a starting offensive tackle, so Miami hopes his best days are ahead of him.
Knowing how Miami thinks, Borom could be a candidate to switch to the interior offensive line. They tried something similar last season with free agent signing Jack Driscoll, who was ultimately cut before the season. After playing collegiately at Missouri, Borom was drafted in the fifth round (No. 151 overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft. He played four seasons in Chicago before hitting unrestricted free agency this year.
