The last time that Danny Rhol’s Owls side claimed a league victory came on 1st January in a 4-2 victory over relegation threatened Derby County. Since then, the S6 side have lost their last two home games against Luton Town and Sunderland, and are without a win in their last five outings at Hillsborough.
Wednesday come into this fixture two matches unbeaten after winning 3-0 at Plymouth Argyle last weekend whilst claiming an unexpected 3-2 victory at Norwich City last Tuesday night. The Canaries had stormed into a two-goal first-half lead after former Sheffield United midfielder, Anis Ben Slimane, assisted both Borja Sainz and Ante Crnac on 16 and 35 minutes, but a second half rally saw the Owls net three goals in 12 minutes to return to Sheffield with maximum points. Second half goals from Michael Ihiekwe (64 minutes), Josh Windass (72 minutes), and Djeidi Gassama (76 minutes) completed a marvellous comeback.
The Owls coach will be without defenders Di’Shon Bernard (knee) and Akin Famewo (muscle), as well as striker Anthony Musaba (muscle), ahead of the Steel City clash. Meanwhile, Max Lowe and Marvin Johnson are likely to be selected to face their former club. Defender Lowe, aged 27, was signed by Chris Wilder in September 2020 in a joint-deal which also brought Jayden Bogle from Derby County. He made his debut in a League Cup defeat at Burnley and went onto make 40 appearances (+ 13 as a substitute) for United and scored once in a 2-1 win over Sunderland in August 2022. Last summer, after being released by the Blades, he joined Wednesday on a free transfer.
