‘Awful’ – Sunderland slammed by former player after Coventry City defeat
Sunderland’s performance against Coventry City last time out has been labelled as ‘awful’ by former player Marco Gabbiadini.
Sunderland were beaten 3-0 by the Sky Blues last time out. Striker Haji Wright scored a hat-trick for SAFC’s opponents and Regis Le Bris’ side had only one shot on target in the game.
The Black Cats are currently sat in 4th place in the table. They are inside the play-offs along with Burnley, Coventry City and West Brom.
Speaking after their last game, Gabbiadini said on BBC Radio Newcastle: “It truly was an awful performance and they got exactly what they deserved but I was quite shocked at the substitutions. It was a game that was attritional, about getting to the ball first – why Alan Browne didn’t get on the field earlier I’ve no idea and when he does come on he plays as a winger which is absolutely bizarre.”
He added: “We’ve seen ourselves through games like this in the past but you have to play very well and play very good football to play around teams like that and we got nowhere near it.”
Sunderland assessment made by former player
Sunderland are in a strange position where they don’t really have anything to play for at the moment.
They are too far off the top two now and they are unlikely to drop out of the top six either.
