Illan Meslier ‘will be distraught’ amid latest Leeds United news

Leeds United may be forced to part ways with Illan Meslier this summer if promotion is achieved.

As things stand, Daniel Farke’s side are still in the driving seat to go on and achieve promotion, though, with eight games still to be played, anything can happen.

If that is achieved, Leeds will be in for a huge summer, and they will have to be rather meticulous when it comes to the decisions they make on the recruitment front.

One of those decisions could have a drastic effect on the future of Meslier, who has been in the spotlight for all of the wrong reasons this season.

Throughout the current campaign, concerns have emerged as to whether Meslier has the credentials to aid Leeds in their promotion push, though Farke has made his feelings clear.

Ahead of the summer window, Caoimhin Kelleher has been linked with a switch to Elland Road, who could become the Whites’ number one.

The Frenchman has remained in goal for this season, but Paul Robinson—when speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News —thinks that the signing of Kelleher could lead to some unpleasant feelings for the goalkeeper.

“It’s not nice as a number one goalkeeper when somebody’s brought in to either replace you or to look to take your jersey.  But that’s where you see the true characteristics of a person, of a goalkeeper.

Meslier has started every league game for Leeds this season

“If there’s only one place on the pitch and we as goalkeepers, you like knowing that you’re the number one. The status in the dressing room, the status in training, but you have to earn that status.

“We forget how young [Meslier] is.  Where he is now with the number of games that he’s played, he may not be happy being on the bench as a number two at a club like Leeds, if they were in the Premier League. If he was to go to a bigger club, for example, say Liverpool, etc., where they had more games and there were European games and he was a number two there, that’s a different role.
