Why Giants Need to Sign Wilson, Pass on Rodgers
New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen is already on the clock. He is fighting for his job. One bad decision on revitalizing the quarterback position and he is on the unemployment line. It is time for Schoen to do the right thing and end the drama. It is time to give up on signing the estranged Aaron Rodgers and sign Russell Wilson. Wilson has already said he is ready to sign with the team.
He said he would sign a team-friendly one-year contract for $5 million. Schoen should be like Nike, “Just Do It.” Wilson is 36 years old. He has plenty left in the tank. He led the Seattle Seahawks to a Super Bowl title and was one bad Pete Carroll decision away from winning a second. The guy is a proven winner. Wilson played well for the Pittsburgh Steelers last season and led them to the playoffs after taking over for Justin Fields. Rodgers on the other hand, is 41 and washed up.
He played for a bad New York Jets team last season and single-handedly got his coach and general manager fired. The same result will happen to Schoen and coach Brian Daboll should they wait for Rodgers. Rodgers has shown he is too old to carry a team on his shoulders. Rodgers was a good quarterback back in the day when he was younger and with the Green Bay Packers. The Packers then saw he was aging terribly and traded him to the New York Jets for whatever they could get. The Packers got the better end of the deal.
