Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora shares thoughts on John Henry cigar photo
The Boston Red Sox had reason to celebrate this offseason, and John Henry celebrated one move in particular.
When news broke that the Red Sox signed Alex Bregman to a three-year deal, Linda Pizzuti Henry posted a photo of her husband to her Instagram story that showed the Red Sox owner enjoying a cigar.
It’s a different tune from Cora, who was asked about the photo the day after it was posted. Of course, Bregman’s deal hadn’t been announced, so the manager needed to remain tight-lipped.
“He was upset at the non-call on (Liverpool star) Mo Salah in minute 95 yesterday,” Cora said in February in Fort Myers. “Should be a penalty and obviously Everton took the ball the other way, they scored and they draw that game. That’s the reason he was smoking that cigar. He was more upset about the match that happened.”
A day later, Bregman arrived to JetBlue Park and his deal was announced.
The Red Sox offseason also included trading for their new ace, Garrett Crochet — who was named the Opening Day starter. They also signed Aroldis Chapman, who looks to be the frontrunner to be the team’s closer.
